ABOUT US

We are currently made up of about 30 members who come from Stamford, Lincolnshire, and the surrounding area. We rehearse on Mondays (principals) and Tuesdays (full company) at Barn Hill Church Hall, North St, Stamford. Our usual rehearsal period runs from April to October, when we perform our annual show at Stamford Corn Exchange Theatre.
Stamford Operatic Society was originally formed in 1905. Its first production was The Gondoliers, followed by a variety of other musicals and operettas. However, the passion to perform exclusively G & S operas was too alluring for many members, and so the Stamford Gilbert and Sullivan Players formed. We staged our first production, HMS Pinafore, in 1951, and have been performing the G & S canon ever since.

The Society has enjoyed much success over the years with NODA (The National Operatic and Drama Association), winning the BEST SHOW award in our category for the following productions:
IOLANTHE (2019)
PATIENCE (2018)
IOLANTHE (2010)
PIRATES OF PENZANCE (2009)
HMS PINAFORE (2007)
We have also featured on the front cover of the NODA magazine.
