ABOUT US
We rehearse two nights a week (Mondays principals & Tuesdays chorus) at Barn Hill Church Hall, in Stamford. Our annual production takes place in October.
Stamford Operatic Society was originally formed in 1905. Their first production was The Gondoliers, followed by a variety of other musicals and operettas. However, the passion to perform exclusively G&S was too alluring for many members, and so the Stamford Gilbert and Sullivan Players formed. The first production, HMS Pinafore, was staged in 1951, and we have been performing the G&S canon ever since.
We have won NODA awards for our recent productions of Patience, Iolanthe and The Sorcerer, and our group has featured on the cover of the NODA TODAY magazine.
MORE ABOUT US
In addition to our annual production we also perform our ‘Story of Gilbert and Sullivan’ concerts!
Written by our Director during lockdown, our fabulous group entertained people in three local venues last year: The beautiful Bourne Abbey Church , the lovely St. Andrew’s church in West Deeping and at the Pinchbeck St Mary's Festival .
Our ‘story’ takes you on a journey through the G&S canon, with well loved songs from the shows, full stage lighting, props, nostalgic photos from past and present and an entertaining narrative guiding you along. These are fundraising events for the Players and hosting churches, so everyone is welcome to come along if you can!🎵
Our next performance of the 'Story of Gilbert and Sullivan' is on March 9th 2024 at Uppingham Church.
Also we have a range of other activities, including most recently carol singing on the Santa Special at the amazing Nene Valley Railway.
